Most Americans are barred from investing in or lending to private businesses through private offerings, because of "accredited investor rules."

You are "accredited" if you earn $200,000 a year or hold $1,000,000 in net worth, excluding your home.

That means early-stage and small-business capitalism is illegal for the vast majority of Americans - including 99% of American households under age 35 - who are unaccredited.

Americans can gamble all our money at casinos. We can risk our lives for our country. But, we are locked out from risking and pooling our capital in the private ownership economy.

Tappan exists to give you the keys.

  1. Tappan trains you to pass the accredited investor exam(s). A new exam is working its way through Congress (HR 3339 passed the House in 2025). We prepare you for it, and, as a failsafe, the existing Series 65 exam which already confers accredited investor status today.
  2. Tappan connects you with "Junto" groups to train with and (when legal) invest with. Juntos are Ben Franklin's 299-year-old method of solving problems and investing in small groups. He credited his Junto with much of his success, character development, and satisfaction.
  3. Tappan provides tools to trust others, be trusted, and minimize fraud. For example, we manage a business network for Junto members to meet and call on each other's expertise. Our model is a modern version of what four US Presidents did as paid agents of the original Tappan credit information network.
Why now?

A new door to ownership & wealth is opening.

  1. Congress is moving, with H.R. 3339 defining a new, more reasonable path to accreditation. No path this accessible has existed since the doors to ownership slammed shut in 1933, a two-tier system formalized in 1982, and the rules were made stricter in 2010.
  2. Software and AI enable the equivalent of private tutors for all. Proven methods can help you learn faster, retain longer, and better help others (e.g. your kids) follow the path with you.
  3. The current trust-creating mechanisms and institutions are crumbling - and new tools are available to rebuild from fundamental American principles.
